Call for Submissions: EASLCE Prize for Best Graduate Student Essay in European Ecocriticism

The European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture, and the Environment (EASLCE) sponsors a prize for the Best Graduate Student Essay in European Ecocriticism. It consists of a stipend of 500 Euros to help cover the costs of attending the next EASLCE conference (at the University of Urtecht, April 13-17 2026) and the opportunity to publish the essay in EASLCE’s official journal Ecozon@, once it has undergone the standard double blind peer review.

All EASLCE student members currently enrolled in an M.A. or Ph.D. program are eligible. The essay must be previously unpublished. Unless the author is enrolled at a European university, the essay must engage explicitly with European literature or European ecocritical theory. It must be written in English, following the author guidelines of Ecozon@ (available at www.ecozona.eu). Deadline for submission is January 1st, 2026. The jury will make its decision known before the end of February. The winner will also be announced at the Urtrecht symposium and on the EASLCE webpage. As stated above, the essay will be considered for inclusion in the forthcoming issue of Ecozon@.

Please email submissions by January 1st, 2026 to the selection committee at: [email protected]
