ANTHROPOSCENERIES: ECOLOGIES, LANDSCAPES, AND STORIES

The Anthropocene is the epoch in which humanity has become a geological force. Never before had our activities affected planetary cycles on such a scale, influencing climate, biodiversity, and landscapes. The impact on society is huge, with extraordinary migration flows involving people and things, natures and cultures. Food, too, is an integral part of these complex dynamics. Faced with these emergencies, the conference will address key questions for humanities scholars, such as: what tools do we have to understand these phenomena? How do the natural, social and cultural landscapes of the Anthropocene come to representation? What stories can convey the impact of these transformations and help us adapt to them? How can we develop a more just concept of the Anthropocene, which addresses the differences that exist all over the planet? How do we build a culture that is at the same time humanist and environmental? And how could this humanist and environmental culture help us meet the natural as well the cultural Other—the migrant—and rethink such a fundamental act of our relationship to the earth as eating?

L’Antropocene è l’epoca in cui l’essere umano è diventato una forza geologica. Come mai in passato, l’impatto delle nostre attività penetra nei cicli della terra, influenzando il clima, la biodiversità, i paesaggi e la stessa struttura fisica del pianeta. L’impatto sulla società è enorme, con straordinari flussi di migrazioni che coinvolgono persone e cose, nature e culture. E il cibo è una delle realtà più coinvolte in queste dinamiche.
In due giorni di convegno, studiose e studiosi si confronteranno con questi interrogativi: Quali strumenti abbiamo, noi umanisti, per comprendere questi fenomeni? Come si presentano i paesaggi dell’Antropocene? Quali storie ci aiutano a raccontare l’impatto delle trasformazioni e ad adattarci ai cambiamenti? Come pensare l’Antropocene tenendo in conto le differenze—anche di sovranità e giustizia— che esistono nelle varie regioni del pianeta? Come costruire una cultura che sia umanistica e ambientale? E in che modo questa cultura può aiutarci a incontrare l’altro naturale e l’altro culturale—il/la migrante—e a ripensare un atto primario della nostra relazione con la terra come l’alimentazione?
