EASLCE is deeply concerned about the dramatic situation in Ukraine and the military attacks that Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin have decided to launch into the sovereign state of Ukraine. We express our explicit condemnation of the invasion of Ukraine and the impact this has on the lives of innocent people and those in affected areas caught up in this crisis. As an organisation dedicated to the study of literature, culture and environment, we share Europe’s long striving for peace. There is nothing more destructive than war: it is destructive for humans, nonhuman beings, and the urban and natural environment, which future generations will inherit from us. We feel compelled to voice our concern and condemn this act of aggression and violation of international law and human rights across Ukraine. This conflict has long-standing implications and unforeseen consequences in Europe and beyond and risks plunging the entire world into a global crisis. In this dark hour, we express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and offer our support to all others in Ukraine, Russia and globally who oppose this senseless war.
