Arcadiana – Blog Editor (3 open positions)

Blog Editor (3 open positions)

Arcadiana, a blog about the environment in literature and culture that is hosted by postgraduate members of EASLCE, has currently three open positions for blog editors. You can find more information on these positions and on how to apply at https://arcadiana.easlce.eu/get-involved/ and below in this email. It would be great if you could inform potentially interested early career researchers about this opportunity to contribute to EASLCE’s work and to the continued growth of our community

The editors are responsible for running the Arcadiana blog. They are in charge of the blog’s direction, issuing general or themed calls for papers and contacting universities and PGR/ECR forums to invite contributions from a wide range of research areas.

Tasks include:

  • Commissioning blog posts directly or via general or themed calls for papers
  • Liaising with authors as well as university departments and networks to increase the reach of the blog
  • Assessing pitches and selecting pieces for publication
  • Copy-editing: assisting authors with clarity, structure, and style – and language barriers, where possible and necessary
  • Proofreading final submissions
  • Online editing: preparing posts for publication, managing WordPress content and keeping the website up to date
  • Liaising with the EASLCE Webinar coordinators, who will provide webinar summaries for publication on the blog
  • Liaising with the EASLCE webmaster for any issues relating to the website
  • Liaising with the events coordinator to update events details
  • Liaising with the communications officer, who will advertise new posts, calls for papers and other important information relating to the blog
  • Optional: organising workshops on publishing op-eds and creative writing for new writers at MA, PhD and ECR level (together with the events coordinator), with the possibility for participants to get the writing they develop during workshops published on the blog

Workload: Each co-editor will take a lead role for a month at a time, on a rolling basis – taking primary responsibility for monitoring the email inbox and delegating editorial tasks. Editors are appointed for 12 months with the possibility of extending. Workload varies depending on the amount of submissions to the blog, time commitment will be 5-10hrs/month.

Editors should have an interest in promoting the environmental humanities beyond academia and making ecocritical research accessible to a wider, non-academic audience. They should have a keen eye for detail and should be able to communicate with a wide range of scholars of different career levels. Previous editorial experience, a basic understanding of WordPress and knowledge of any additional languages other than English would be desirable, but is not essential.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates are invited to send their application via email. Your application should include:

  1. Updated CV: Highlighting any relevant experience, especially in editorial roles or the environmental humanities field.
  2. Cover Letter: Detailing your interest in this position and how you envision contributing to the growth and success of the Arcadiana blog.

Please email your application materials to Paula Wieczorek at [email protected] and Alice Higgs at [email protected]

The application deadline is 25 September 2023.
